Oral history interview with Raymond Wheeler, 1978 June 1 and July 17.

Interview with Raymond Wheeler concerning his experiences as a manager of McClurkan Properties and Industrial Credit Corporation, and owner and operator of an insurance company in Denton, Texas. Wheeler discusses his family background and education, his experience as a credit manager for a wholesale grocery, organizing a personal (merchant endorsed) loan company in 1938, and dealing with the loan company's growth, problems, and strengths. He also talks about McClurkan Properties, explains his views on local ownership vs. chain ownership, and shares his views concerning community growth. Wheeler speaks about the establishment and operation of his insurance agency, the sale of McClurkan Properties, the sale of his own business, desegregation of Denton public schools during his presidency of the school board, and the reasons for his business success.
